No, not the potato chips. Oscar de la Renta Ruffles is a fine fragrance line I worked on around 1985. This is an original marker sketch for packaging of a gift-with-purchase.
A less-publicized aspect of my talent.
I was an art director with Ryan Partnership in the late 1990s. This is a detail from one of the pieces in a marketing campaign for Nokia during the Latin Grammy Awards.
My association with Mission Foods spans two entirely different agencies. I created these images while at the second agency, FKM. They were composed in Illustrator and appeared on many promotional items.
At FKM there was no shortage of interesting design projects. This one was around 2004 and is but one of many examples.
In the late 1980s I was freelancing in NYC. I was always dreaming up stuff to show the marketing and manufacturing people like this on-counter display of modeled acrylic. The packaging is also custom.
I was never able to get artcookies (TM) off the ground in a big way but I baked and iced hundreds and hundreds over a decade's time. At my most ambitious I sketched out designs in advance and actually created this design as a boxed-set of holiday artcookies.
I often consulted with Dansco, a packaging broker, around 1988. I found some logo designs I had put in front of them at some point and thought they were still pretty cool.
In 1988 I was intimidated by people like Pierre Dinand but that didn't stop me from sketching out ideas for dozens of flacons. I got close a couple of times but have never had one of my designs produced.
Drawing can be very calming. I work in Ebony pencil. This picture is of the ancient shipyards near Hoboken, NJ. I took the shot from a ferry while crossing the Hudson River.
A logo I designed while at Krause Advertising. it is for a line of diamond jewelry.
Sometimes I freeze a picture on a video and draw it as quickly as I can while sitting in front of the TV. This is Viggo in Appaloosa.
While at FKM in Dallas I had the opportunity to design a brand concept for this client. This is one of many design ideas that went into the presentation.
I presented this bold design while a senior AD at Krause Advertising. The 3D nature of the rings made for very interesting design challenges. This was my vision for a winter theme and the trees are my own creation.
One of many original type forms I have created. This is part of a series I did while at Krause Advertising.
This may seem like a solitary logo but it is part of a graphic system based on state entities. Several such system concepts were created within this project. I particularly liked this style.
I guess I have always been sketchy. In 2010 I supplied a completed entry in that year's Sketchbook Project. The project has become so huge I can't even find my sketchbook anymore. Fortunately, I made a digital copy.
One of the spreads from my entry in The Sketchbook Project 2010. I was assigned the theme, "Danger Danger". The topic gave me many dangerous ideas.
